Client: Restore America’s Estuaries
Standard: Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)
TC Services: Project feasibility
The Herring River Restoration (HRR) project is located in Wellfleet and Truro, Massachusetts on Cape Cod and would involve the restoration of 1,100 acres of degraded salt marsh. Project activities include removing old dikes and installing a new bridge and tidal gates to restore natural tidal flows to the project area. If implemented, the restoration would to lead to multiple ecological benefits including reduced greenhouse gas emissions as the salinity of the marsh would increase and inhibit methane production.
TerraCarbon is currently working with Restore America’s Estuaries, the National Park Service, and HRR partners to assess the feasibility of developing a blue carbon project in connection with the restoration. The assessment will involve evaluating the technical, financial, organizational, legal, and market aspects of carbon project development. Technical feasibility is being evaluated against the recently issued VCS Seagrass and Tidal Wetland Restoration methodology.
